Child's Play

I don't really have anything to say tonight, just had a new picture I wanted to post. Sophie and Eli absolutely love each other, and if I can ever figure out how to post a video I'll show you. For now, this picture can suffice. They had just gotten done having a laughing contest and I tried to capture their smiles. Sophie is now very aware when I have the camera, and has to pose. She also has to be in every picture. It's very hard for me to get a picture of Eli by himself!

Night-Night Time

Sophie got a baby doll as a gift when Eli was born, and she's been attached to it ever since. She sleeps with it, it goes everywhere she goes, and God forbid we forget it. This morning, we were watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney Channel, and Sophie got excited, ran to her toy box, and pulled out her Mickey Mouse stuffed animal. I had given it to her a few weeks ago while I was cleaning out the basement. It used to be mine when I was a kid, and I found it in a box of old stuff. It was neat to be able to give her something that I used to play with, even if it was just a stuffed animal. Anyway, I don't know why today of all days she decided that Mickey was her new best friend. I had to take the kids to my mom's today when I got called out for work, and Sophie wanted to take Mickey, not her baby doll. This was the first time in 6 months we left the house without her baby doll. I thought maybe the baby doll wasn't going to be such the fixture anymore, but tonight when I put Sophie to bed, she made me tuck in her, Mickey Mouse, and her baby doll. I even had to kiss them and tell them "sweet dreams" like I do to Sophie. It was so cute and I couldn't pass up getting a picture. Sophie is twirling her hair and cheesing for the camera. Fifteen minutes later she was out like a light. So cute!

Earthquakes, Vomit, Rain, and Birthdays

Things have been crazy since yesterday morning! We were woken up by the earthquake (as I'm sure everyone else was) around 5:30 Friday morning. Sophie had crawled in bed with us right before it happened, and right after it was over, she decided to throw up on me. In addition to getting ready for work, I also had the lovely task of stripping the bed and washing the sheets. I assumed that would be all of the excitement for the morning, but Sophie decided she wasn't done vomiting and was sitting on our bed and the comforter when she threw up again. This time she managed to get it all over her and I had to figure out how to get her into the bathroom without dragging her mess throughout the house. I finally ended up just wrapping her in my bath towel. I added giving her a bath to my list of things to do before going to work. Amazingly, I still made it to work on time. I was there for a whole hour when Steve called to let me know she had thrown up again, making her early morning bath pointless. When I got home, Sophie made sure to point out the places to me where she had thrown up, on the kitchen floor and on the living room floor.

On Saturday morning, I managed to drag myself out of bed and participate in Race for the Cure. This is the 5th year of participating, and once again I was moved by the amount of people commited to finding a cure to end breast cancer. Seeing all the survivors in their pink shirts, marching together in the Survivor Parade brought tears to my eyes as it always does. It rained on us at the beginning of the race, but cleared up not too much later. By the end of the race, I was almost totally dry.
This evening, we went to my parents house to celebrate Steve's birthday. My husband turned the big 3-9 on Thursday. Normally we don't think anything of our 10 yr. age difference, but I happily reminded him that next year when he turns 40 I will only be 29. He then proceeded to call me a gold digger (I have yet to find it!) and I labeled him a cradle robber. For his birthday this year, I had my step-dad build him a cornhole set. I worked my behind off for two days to get the Harley-Davidson logo on it. I had to use an exact-o knife to cut the pattern out of cardboard. I lost the feeling in the top of my thumb and it hasn't returned a week later. I was pretty proud of myself for the way they turned out, and Steve was really surprised. It had been driving him crazy, knowing that I had gone to my parents house to work on "something" and he couldn't guess correctly.

Sophie was excited about them as well, but I think that's because she thought it was a slide.

We then sang "Happy Birthday" and true to fashion, we sang it very badly. Sophie expressed her dislike for our voices by putting her bib over her face.
Eli enjoyed spending time with Great-Mamaw Kelley. I love seeing the two of them together, and I know Mamaw absolutely loves it as well.

Genetics and Playtime

When Sophie first started sucking her thumb (both of my children are thumbsuckers; they refused pacifiers), she only sucked her left thumb, and used her right hand to keep the left hand in place. She still does it to this day; I have never seen her suck her right thumb. Once Eli discovered his thumb, I noticed that he sucked his left thumb as well, with the right hand as support, just as Sophie did. I was able to catch both of them doing it tonight and had to share. I don't know if that is a Crowe habit or a Freshour habit, but it's cute nonetheless.

Sophie then wanted to have her picture taken with Mommy.

We couldn't stop there. Sophie wanted Eli to be included in the pictures, so she told me how she wanted Eli to sit in her lap and she would hold him. She at first tried to put her arms around his neck. I had to redirect her before she choked her brother to death.
Both look pretty good for being sick, huh? Eli had to go to the doctor today and has an ear infection. Sophie has been sniffing and sneezing as well. I have a feeling Eli is going to be our "health issues" child as he just got over RSV and finished up his breathing treatments last week. I pray that he gets his father's immune system, because I was a sickly child growing up!

Spring has sprung!

The weather was awesome on Sunday! I was so excited to get out of the house that we had been cooped up in all winter. I just mentioned the word "outside" and Sophie got excited and repeated it all morning. She finally got to ride her Minnie Mouse tricycle that she got for Christmas.

Sophie couldn't quite grasp the concept of pedaling, and when I physically put her feet on the pedals and told her to push, she pushed both. She gave up and just scooted with her feet. This is what happened to her shoes after about a half hour of scooting:

Eli enjoyed being outside as well. This was his first trip outside in his stroller, and he had a blast.
We followed Sophie as she rode her tricycle, and eventually Sophie wanted to push Eli.
I love the warm weather, and it's great enjoying it from a new perspective: parent.
Also, I am aware that the date is wrong on my camera. I can't quite remember how to change it. :)
